Theatre Flamenco in “YEAR IN DANCE” by the San Francisco Bay Guardian

We are honored to be part of the 12 chosen events, considered a highlight in 2010. “Una Nota Flamenca” as 10 of 12, alongside other great Bay Area dance companies such as the San Francisco Ballet and Lines Ballet. Come join us at the next show January 8, 2011 in Mountain View.

10. Carola Zertuche, artistic director of Theatre Flamenco of San Francisco, has reoriented flamenco to where it belongs: the soloist. For “Una (Nota) Noche Flamenco,” the company’s 44th season, she invited dancers Manuel Gutierrez, Juan Siddi, and Cristina Hall, whose takes on flamenco could not be more different. They joined Zertuche and a group of equally strong, individualized singers and instrumentalists for an exceptionally well-balanced evening of powerfully performed dance.

An experience of flamenco dance that embodies the emotion ignited from a single musical note, “Una Nota Flamenca” will captivate the senses. Traditionally orchestra instruments accompany the flamenco guitar, cajon and cante as dancers hearing the same musical note interpret the music through their own unique and alluring style of flamenco. Artistic Director, Carola Zertuche, and company will be joined onstage by renowned guest artists from Spain: Manuel Gutierrez, Juan Siddi and Cristina Hall with musical direction by Jose Valle “Chuscales” and gypsy singer Cristo Cortes, and Felix de Lola along with musicians Alex Conde (piano), Tregar Otton (violin) and Jesse Wolff (cello). “Una Nota Flamenca” combines extraordinary footwork and invigorating music into a deeply moving theatrical experience.
