Bio and Photo courtesy of Tablao Flamenco CordobesAntonio Fernández Montoya is a flamenco dancer best known as Farru and the son of the flamenco singer Juan Fernández Flores “El Moreno” and of the flamenco dancer Rosario Montoya Manzano, known as “La Farruca”. He is the grandson of “Farruco”, one of the most important dancers of flamenco history and the founder of one of the world leading schools of flamenco. His brother is Farruquito, who is currently considered one of the most distinguished flamenco dancers.

Farru will be in the Bay Area on tour with the Paco de Lucia Project (the San Francisco performance is sponsored by SFJAZZ on Wednesday, November 8 and is nearly sold out already). We are thrilled to have this special opportunity to study with him during his brief visit to San Francisco.

The workshop is a two-hour class, all levels, from 7 pm - 9pm on Tuesday, November 7 and again from 11 am - 1 pm on Wednesday, November 8 at the Carola Zertuche Centro de Arte Flamenco.

Workshop fees: $50 for each workshop in advance; $60 for each workshop drop-in

Israel Suárez, known as "El Piraña," is one of the most renowned cajón players in the flamenco world. The son of Ramon "El Portugués," he began his career by joining renowned flamenco singer Nina Pastori's group. He has since collaborated with many renowned artists and worked with the great flamenco guitar legend Paco de Lucía. Watch a video from Suárez's master class at the Berklee College of Music’s campus in Valencia, Spain.

"El Piraña" is on tour with the Paco de Lucia Project (the San Francisco performance is sponsored by SFJAZZ on Wednesday, November 8 and is nearly sold out already). We are thrilled to have this special opportunity to study with him during his brief visit to San Francisco.

Carmen Ledesma was a guest artist for our 2015 home season production (R)evolution and she is returning for a special weekend of workshops and shows with us on Friday, November 17, 2017 and Saturday, November 18, 2017.

Carmen Ledesma is a Flamenco dancer from Seville who is regularly seen performing in festivals across Andalucía. Her career as a flamenco dancer began with training with Sevillano legend Enrique el Cojo and with her maestro Pepe Ríos, the nephew of Diego del Gastor of Morón de la Frontera.  She won the Concurso Nacional de Córdoba el premio Juana La Macarrona in 1983.  Since then, she has worked with a long list of top artists, such as Antonio Gades, El Lebrijano, Mario Maya, El Farruco, "El clan de los Pinini", and Concha Vargas.  Besides a popular entertainer, she is one of the most sought-after flamenco teachers in the world.
